Taylor Swift is a master at dropping hints for her fans, and those fans have become certified sleuths. Over the years, she has left clues in music videos, lyric pamphlets, Instagram posts, and more. Lately, fans have been searching for easter eggs pointing to what her next album will be. Let’s dive into a few fan theories about which Taylor Swift album is up next! 🧐
The theory we have been seeing most often, and probably the most heavily evidenced, is that the next album Taylor will drop the re-recording of her 2010 album Speak Now. As we know, Taylor is currently re-recording her past albums after a struggle in 2019 with music manager Scooter Braun where she lost control of her masters. We can’t wait to hear her voice on our favorite songs again, and it sounds like other Swifties are just as excited! 🎉
One of the first clues people have connected to Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) comes from the music video for “I Bet You Think About Me” from Red (Taylor’s Version), in which Taylor plays a “psychotic ex” intent on getting revenge on her ex-boyfriend at his wedding. In the video, she wears mostly red and in the final scene, she is in a glamorous red gown. That gown in particular reminded fans of the cover of Speak Now (Deluxe Edition) and they have speculated that it may be used in the cover for the rerecording. In addition to the dress, fans also say that the wedding venue from this video is a hint since Speak Now heavily references a wedding. 👰🏼♀️
Just last week, Taylor’s online store released a summer collection full of fun purple merch! With Speak Now’s primary color scheme of purple, this seems like a pretty direct reference to the highly anticipated rerecording. Another clue comes from NYU, where just yesterday, May 18th, Taylor was given an honorary doctorate at NYU and gave a commencement speech to the class of 2022. Why is this hint, you ask? NYU’s primary color is purple! With all these possible easter eggs lining up, we are enchanted by the thought of hearing Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) soon. 💜
Another popular fan theory involves Taylor’s 2014 album 1989. One week ago, Taylor released her re-recording of “This Love,” a track from 1989, and announced it will be featured in the Prime Video movie “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” This surprise came in the midst of theories about Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and has thrown some people off the trail and divided the fandom into groups based on which album they think is up next. Team 1989 argues that Taylor wouldn’t have released the single too far ahead of the album release, and they do make a good point! Along with “This Love (TV),” Swift already released “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)” back in September 2021 when the song was trending on TikTok. These singles added fuel to the flames of fans’ hopes for 1989 (TV)! 🥳
In Taylor’s NYU appearance and speech, fans noticed other allusions to albums besides Speak Now! She gave another pretty obvious reference to 1989 in her commencement speech, where she used lyrics from her song “Welcome To New York.” Taylor definitely has smarts and style when dropping hints to her fans! ✨
With those two albums being the leading
contenders among fans and so many easter eggs for each album, we can’t wait to see what one comes next. Which theory will win, or is Taylor planning something completely new? For now, we will keep a close eye on Taylor’s social media and eagerly await an announcement! 🤩
