It’s Pride Month - a month dedicated to celebrating love, equality and acceptance within the LGBTQ+ community! Allies of the LGBTQ+ community are also encouraged to show their support and help make the world a better place. Last year, we were so excited to showcase some amazing LGBTQ+ artists, and this year, we want to highlight some musicians
that are allies of the LBGTQ+ community and how fans can follow in their footsteps to fight for inclusion. ❤️
First up is Mariah Carey! Mariah has posted several times about Pride month across her social media accounts, and this year, she’s showing her support by releasing an exclusive line of Pride merch! In her post announcing this, she wrote “Dahlings!!! The latest additions to my Pride collection are available to order now!!!I particularly enjoy the SHADE fan! Celebrate your fabulosity and be proud!!” Creating Pride merch will encourage her fans to wear clothes that show their individuality and spread love. Wearing any kind of Pride merch allows music fans and
communities to show their support and show how inclusive they are! 🧡
Taylor Swift, a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, has also been active during Pride month! For the past few years, Taylor has been fighting for the passage of the Equality Act, a bill thats goal is to “prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.” Taylor even started a petition two years ago to help get the bill passed. So far, it has over 800,000 signatures!
This year, on June 1st, Taylor tweeted a message of support for the members of the LGBTQ+ community, allies, activists and supporters. She also wrote, “I proudly join GLAAD in their #summerofequality and add my voice to those who support the Equality Act. Happy Pride month!” Fan communities can also be supportive allies by signing the petition and making their own fandoms a supportive, inclusive place for all! 💛
Up next we have Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore! Hayley posted a series of pictures and videos on Instagram to celebrate Pride month. In the caption of the post, she talked about how her hair dye company, Good Dye Young, will be donating 100% of the profits from their new scented candle to The Trevor Project, the “leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ youth.”
This is so great! Fans can either buy the candle or donate to The Trevor Project to help save LGBTQ+ lives, which is vitally important. 💚
Rihanna, the musician and entrepreneur, is also dedicated to inclusion - especially this month. Her popular lingerie brand, SAVAGE X FENTY, is celebrating Pride month by releasing a PRIDE collection of lingerie! In fact, some of the models for the Pride lingerie line are notable members of the LGBTQ+ community, including Gigi Goode, a popular Drag Queen who appeared on Ru Paul’s Drag Race!
The collection features bright colors and rainbow prints, notable staples of the LGBTQ+ community. Also, SAVAGE X FENTY’s bio on Instagram right now is “Love is love is love is Savage ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 #SavageXPride.” Supporting brands that fight for inclusion and show it in their own work is one of the many ways fans can be good allies and continue to support the LGBTQ+ community. 💙
Lastly, we wanted to feature Niall Horan. Niall frequently shows his support for the LGBTQ+ community. Back in 2015, Ireland (Niall’s home country) had an electoral vote to decide if same-sex marriage would be legalized. Niall posted a picture
of a rainbow-colored shamrock, writing “C'mon
Ireland, vote yes today!” in support of the vote.
This post received over a million likes.
Also, he has also posed with several of his LGBTQ+ fans while wearing pride flags to show his support! This year during Pride month, Niall tweeted, “HAPPY PRIDE MONTH, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. It’s your life, LOVE who you want to LOVE!” As a former member of One Direction, Niall’s words/actions reach and affect a lot of people.
Having someone with that kind of influence support the LGBTQ+ community really helps spread the message of acceptance and inclusion! Fans of Niall and music fans alike can use his tactics like spreading awareness about political decisions that might affect the LGBTQ+ community and spreading words of positivity and love for the community in order to be better allies. 💜
This month (and always), we need to focus on spreading positivity and love. These artists are putting Pride month in the limelight, which will allow for millions of people to learn about Pride and see how they themselves can support it. Fighting for the acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community will make for a safer, happier country, and who doesn’t want that?
Oh, and lastly, HAPPY PRIDE! 🌈
