Love her, hate her, say what, what you want about her but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to hear Britney Spears’ new song with Elton John! The song “Hold Me Closer,” which dropped on August 26th, is a reimagining of Elton’s John classic “Tiny Dancer." With a hook from Elton’s 1971 hit mixed with some disco-synth and Spears’ killer vocals that gives major Cher energy, fans will not be disappointed with Britney’s return to the charts! 💜

This is not Elton’s first time collaborating with icons to recreate his hits. In 2018, Revamp: Reimagining the songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin was released and featured a ton of stars like P!nk, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus, and Demi Lovato. This album had each artist take on one of Elton’s classics and make it their own. Recently, he worked with Dua Lipa in 2021 to create “Rocket Man" inspired song, “Cold Heart.” The song peaked at number seven on the Billboard charts and had us dancing for months. However, in the new collaboration with Britney, Elton made it clear in an interview with Apple Music that this is “all about her for me.” He also said that “this is someone who has been through hell, who needed some love in her life, a lot of love from a lot of people, and she’s getting it.” We love seeing icons supporting icons. 🌟

This is Britney Spears’ first song in six long years. After a tough legal battle with her father, which is still ongoing, she was apparently very nervous about going back into the studio after all this time. But this worry was not shared by those working on the song! "When you look back at her old footage," Elton says, "it's clear that Spears was and still is the complete package." It was never a doubt in our minds that Britney’s return to music would be a huge success! 🙌

All of Britney’s hard work seems to be paying off. In Australia, the song has secured the number one spot on the charts! The song also debuted at number 30 in the U.S., according to Billboard. Britney stans agree this is more than a song for her and is a representation of her ability to finally control her music and life. “Hold Me Closer” marks a new beginning for the superstar. We’re glad to have her back and can’t wait to see what she does next! You can listen to “Hold Me Closer” here or stream it on all streaming platforms! 🥳
